Culture media preparation for clinical microbiology
Culture media are fundamental in clinical microbiology. In laboratories in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), they are mostly prepared in-house, which is challenging.
We have written a review article (Orekan et al., 2021) about the challenges, best practices for preparation and recommendations for improved access for culture media for clinical bacteriology in LMICs. This SOP summarizes the best practices for culture media preparation, the quality control requirements and the troubleshooting that are described in this review article (i.e. Tables 1, 2 and 3).
We have also prepared forms to register the prepared culture media and the quality control results (see Appendices 1 and 2).
