Punch skin biopsy sampling for molecular diagnosis

The examination known as a “punch biopsy” involves removing a piece of skin under local anaesthetic. The samples are sent to the laboratory in country or another country for analysis. The aim of this examination is to enable a molecular diagnosis of among others leprosy, confirming the presence of the bacillus in the lesion.
